Behaviour Management Plan
We believe all children and staff have the right to learn and to work in a safe and caring environment. Teachers use a variety of positive strategies to encourage good behaviour choices every day in their classrooms. These strategies include using positive attention in recognition of positive behaviour, e.g. praise, incentives, and appropriate consequences for poor behaviour and learning choices. Classroom teachers also encourage and teach students to use problem solving daily in their classrooms and in the playground. Social and academic skills are promoted by teachers setting clear structures and boundaries and employing the appropriate consequences for learning choices.
Students will show manaakitanga and kindness to one another.
Students will support each other’s right to learn.
Teachers are treated with respect.
Students will include others.
School grounds or classrooms are not to be left without permission.
Students will be respectful of school property.
Students will adhere to safety rules on and around the playground.
Students will adhere to safety rules in and around the swimming pool area.

Staff Guidelines for Encouraging Appropriate Behaviour.
Class Rules: At the start of the school year children and teachers will work together to produce a set of rules for each class based on the school behaviour guidelines. These rules will be agreed upon by the class and follow discussions on how to create a happy, safe, working classroom. These rules will be displayed in class so that everyone can see them and will be referred to at any time to reinforce good behaviour. Rules should be expressed in a positive way. eg. 'Don't run' becomes 'Always walk in school.'
Staff will:
Model positive behaviour
Treat children with respect
Teach children there are consequences to their behaviour.
Respond positively to good behaviours with rewards, especially praise.
Ignore, when safe to do so, inappropriate behaviour. "catch the child being good" Encourage the child to explain what they should be doing.
Be consistent.
Where appropriate, be aware of the personal circumstances of individual children.
Classroom Rewards:
House points, Class points, special reward incentives (e.g shared lunch, class movie) DP/Principal stickers
communicating positive behaviour to parents eg. email, photos etc.
